Free CMA 'What's Your Home Worth' Report
When you put your home on the market, you want to make it shine. There’s a lot of competition out there and anything you can do to make your home stand out will increase your chances of selling it quickly and for top dollar. Buyers, even those who love pets, generally shy away from homes with obvious signs of pet life. It doesn’t make sense, but there it is.
Critical 'Must Have' Information When Selling A Home!
So, if you’re a pet owner, you need to take extra measures to ensure that any potential buyers won’t be turned off by traces of Max, Puffy or Polly that may not even be on your radar screen.
-
Scoop the Poop. No matter how beautiful your landscaping, if it smells of dog droppings (or worse, if a visitor steps in some), it’s an instant “no way.” Clean the yard daily and dispose of poop in an odor-proof container. If necessary, hire a service to do this: http://www.poop911.com/florida/fort_lauderdale/or www.scoopervisor.com
-
De-odorize. Keep cages, litterboxes and beds clean by changing the bedding or litter daily. Light scented candles before showings.
-
Keep them Safe. Remove all pets when an agent is bringing people to your home. Enlist a willing neighbor or friend to pet-sit. Consider using pet daycare during your listing period. Even small pets (guinea pigs, hamsters) should be taken out of the house during showings.
-
De-allergize. Vacuum and dust daily, especially in the rooms where your pets live.
-
Fix-it. If your pet has chewed or clawed furniture, walls or floors, make the appropriate repairs and then declare the area off-limits.
-
No Spot, No! Pet stains on the carpeting are a big turnoff. If they can’t be removed, cover the area with a new throw rug.
-
Toy Story. Stash all toys, bowls, mats and leashes out of sight.
-
Ask a Friend. Have a friend or neighbor come into your house and point out signs of pet wear and tear, odors or other giveaways.
-
Bug Out. Have an exterminator spray for ticks, fleas and other pet-related annoyances. Follow-up by having your pets treated to eliminate the pests.
-
Photo Op. Take photos of your pet off walls, refrigerator doors and shelves.
